Dogs

Whenever a dog barks
one thinks it is nothing but a mere bark.
No one ever bears in mind that
the dog may be calling names
or saying things like:
"Hey, human! Get out of my way!
You are not better than me.
You are just another son of a bitch."

Note: People always ask me why I never write poems in English or in Spanish. I tell them that no matter how well you master a foreign language, things always cause more impact in our mother tongue. However, the idea of writing "Dogs" had been in my mind for a long time. At first, I wanted to write it in Portuguese and I even struggled to do that but the term "son of a bitch" does not cause the same impact in Portuguese. Therefore, I decided to write it in English so that the poem could be more meaningful. For those who can speak both languages, I guess it is quite a challenge to translate it into Portuguese.
